Firefighter Training

Firefighters are required to complete two hours of job-specific training during each 24-hour shift. Some training we do on our own, some is done in conjunction with cooperating agencies. Training activities often include:

  • Emergency medical scenarios (Basic Life Support & Advanced Life Support)
  • Rescue Drills: Auto Extrication; Swiftwater; Confined Space; High and Low Angle Rescue
  • Skills Sessions: SCBA (Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus); Rope/Rescue Systems; Ladders; Progressive Hoselays
  • Fire Readiness Exercises (wildland fire operations)
  • Live-fire training (structure fire operations)
  • EVOC (Emergency Vehicle Operations Course)
  • EMT continuing education
  • Hazardous Materials
  • Incident Management (Incident Command System)
  • Fire Investigation and Fire Prevention Codes & Ordinances Updates
